This brooding effort is more reserved than the Clos de Bèze with a reluctant nose of ripe plum, dark berry fruit liqueur and pungent earth aromas. The solidly concentrated and quite serious medium weight plus flavors possess good verve but perhaps a bit less firmness than one might typically expect from a not-yet-bottled Bonnes Mares. Still, this is hardly a forward wine, just forward for the appellation.
